Mix It Up at Lunch

On Tuesday, October 29, 8^th Grade students at Avonworth Middle School joined over 6,000 other schools across the nation to “Mix It Up At Lunch”.  For one Lunch period, students ate lunch & talked with a different group of students based on numbers they had randomly selected the previous day.  The purpose of the Mix It Up at Lunch program is to promote meeting new people, finding common interests, and breaking down pre-existing stereotypes about other people in their school.  Prior to the event, Civics students studied examples of prejudice & discrimination in American History while in their Reading class, they examined at how social groups impacted characters in The Outsiders.
