AR Update!

Reminder: AR Progress Check in reading class on Thursday, September 26.

Is this math or science class? It's both!

The students in the eighth grade are participating in a series of STEM, also known as science, technology, engineering and mathematics, activities in their math and science classes. First we are working through Ramp It Up!, which is an investigation into Newton's principles of motion. Student teams in the different math classes are independently investigating what happens to an object as it rolls down a ramp. As the unit unfolds, students learn about classical physics problems and some of the history behind so many of the discoveries of the 16th century. They are then applying those principals to everyday problems using scientific investigation.

Study Island assignments

When visiting the Google Calendar, you may see impending due dates in both Reading and Math for Study Island assignments.  We allot approximately one class period per week for students to work on Study Island, but if your child finds that this is not enough time, or if they are absent on a given work day, please encourage them to work on it from home!  Students can visit http://www.studyisland.com/  and get caught up at their convenience.  If your child has trouble logging in, please see Mrs. Galecki or Mrs. Costantino.  Enjoy your education vacation on Study Island!

Civics Test

There will be a civics test tomorrow, Friday, 9/20/13.

Advertising Campaign

Eighth grade students are beginning an advertising unit in English. For this project, students will (in groups) design a product and will then develop an advertising campaign that will sell that product to their classmates. Each student will receive a paycheck for their work on the project, and will use that paycheck to buy each other’s products. The group that makes the most money and the group that sells the most products will win a prize.

AMS Student Council

Would your student like to help plan the Children’s Hospital Auction, the semi-formal or the magazine sale?

Student Council is a great way for students to get involved in their school community!  Students are invited to come to the first after school meeting in room 115 on Thurs., Sept. 12 at 3:05.  The meeting will last until 4:00 and remember students must have a ride home.
